My Experience With ED
I am 44 and my long-term girl friend is 22. Being able to sexually perform has always been a source of pride for me, so suffering Erectile Dysfunction was both scary and embarrassing. As most of my readers know, I suffered spinal damage in late 2014. From this injury, I have experienced a lot of damage/changes to my body. My hands still have nerve damage and I suffer from a loss of fine motor skills. My feet, back of my legs and penis still have tingles and pain. My back will send shooting pains through my side, sometimes for what seems like no reason.
At first I thought it was just nerve damage. I regained getting hard-ons a few weeks after the accident, but I was not functioning like I was before the accident. For the most part, I had the normal 2-5 random hard-ons per day, with no problem getting excited for sex. After the accident, that changed. I would go through a couple of days of normal hard-ons and sex, and then go a week with no hard-ons. It was really making me question my health.
My first thought was to just buy Viagra, and I did try that for a short period of time. I don’t like taking drugs and this was still a hit to my ego. During my research I also found out those pills can do damage to the circulatory system.
With my rehab, I have been eating healthy and getting stronger in the gym. I am back to benching 225 (well short of my 375) but my endurance was way down. I completely believe in the body’s natural ability to heal and have seen it with my own injuries as well as those of friends and family that have followed my training guide. With that I began to research why I would be suffering from ED, and what I could do about it.
Through my research I learned that on the days I was getting normal hard-ons, I was eating very specific foods. It was these foods that were impacting my body’s natural ability to become erect. I also learned that some of what I believed impacted the erect penis was wrong.
Right now, I am back to full and normal erections, simply by modifying my diet. It is very easy to do, and a lot cheaper than taking pills.
Even if you don’t have ED, this approach will still give you firmer and harder erections.
What Is Erectile Dysfunction?
Erectile dysfunction, also known as ED is a males inability to get or keep an erection firm enough to have sexual intercourse. In the past it was referred to as impotence, and still is to a degree.
Occasional ED is not uncommon as many men experience it during times of high stress, high levels of alcohol or other drugs that impact blood flow and from body chemistry. The issue arises from frequent ED which can be a sign of health problems that need treatment. Think of ED as a warning sign that something is out of balance with your body’s chemistry, hormones and nutritional needs.
Is Erectile Dysfunction Common?
Yes it is, more than most men want to admit. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases over 29 million American men suffer from ED. As you might expect, the impact of ED increases with age.
According to NIH.gov:
While Erectile Dysfunction did increase with age, with proper diet, exercise and lifestyle ED can be avoided. We also can’t discount the impact of mental experiences and our association with a healthy lifestyle. On the average, the older a man is the slower his erection may onset, but that is not necessarily a sign of ED.
How Does a Man Get an Erection?
Most of us know an erection is the result of increased blood flow into the penis with a decrease of blood out of the penis causing the penis to grow harder. Blood flow is usually stimulated by either sexual thoughts or direct contact with the penis, though it can also be a function of nightly regulation to keep the veins and elasticity of the penis healthy.
Unfortunately, ED can occur because of problems at any stage of the erection process. For example, damage to the penile arteries may not allow for proper blood flow into the body. The good news is the body has some amazing healing properties when simply given the right building blocks.
When a man becomes sexually excited the muscles in the penis relax (I always thought the muscles tightened to prevent blood from leaving). This relaxation allows for the increased blood flow into the penile arteries. The blood fills two chambers inside the penis called the Corpora Cavernosa. As the chambers fill with blood, the penis grows rigid and may grow in length. Erection ends when the entrance muscles contract and the accumulated blood can flow out through the penile veins.
Under normal circumstances, as you are sexually stimulated, your brain will send a message through your spinal cord and into the nerves of your penis. The nerve endings in your penis will release chemical messengers (neurotransmitters) which cause the muscles around the arteries that supply blood to the corpora cavernosa to relax and fill with blood. As they expand, the corpora cavernosa closes off the other veins which would normally allow blood to drain from the penis. As the penis becomes filled with blood, it enlarges and stiffens, which is your erection. Problems with blood vessels, nerves, or tissues in the penis can interfere with this process and cause Erectile Dysfunction.
For the most part, erectile dysfunction is simply a problem with your blood flow, and is a problem that can be easily resolved. No need to be embarrassed about it, throw your relationships away, or be upset and depressed. We simply change a few things in our life and the problem goes away.
Potential causes of ED include:
- cardiovascular disease
- damage from cancer or surgery
- relationship problems
- drug use
- alcohol use
Keep in mind these ED factors can compound on each other.

Natural Erectile Dysfunction Correction
A better lifestyle may be all you need for stronger erections. We will discuss these components in just a moment.
Erectile Dysfunction Vacuums (Penile Pumps)
The penis pump is a device that pulls blood into the penis. The main drawback is that you must stop before sex, go vacuum your penis and then proceed. It also may not last long depending on what is causing the ED in the first place. Many men do use this method to combat their ED with good results.
Penile prostheses, or penis implants, offers a permanent solution to erectile dysfunction. There are more types, each to combat a different issue. The main drawback found during my research is the potential damage to the sensitivity of the penis. It is also extremely expensive and I highly suggest you try all the other methods before considering this.
Erectile Dysfunction Surgery
Depending on exactly what the issue is, surgery can improve the blood flow to the penis. If the problem is corrected by correcting muscle function or vein blood flow, this can be a viable option. It is my belief that many issues surgery can correct, natural treatment for ED is a much cheaper, easier and just as successful method. This can also be a very expensive treatment.
Natural Nutrients To Improve Erectile Dysfunction
Zinc – Zinc in the body may improve the body’s natural levels of testosterone and is core for penile function.
Nitrates – Typically food nutrients that positively impact blood flow. They have been shown to improve blood pressure and increase circulation.
Flavonoids – Flavonoids are highly diversified organic plant matter that are present in a wide range of fruits, vegetables, and nuts. They positively impact various biological activities including anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and anti-viral properties. Anti-inflammatory properties are most commonly associated with ED.
Proteins – There are 8 essential proteins (amino acids) required by the body for healthy organ and muscle function. L-arginine is a conditionally essential amino acid and a precursor to nitric oxide. Nitric oxide (NO) is believed to be the main vasoactive nonadrenergic component to allow proper blood flow into the penis.
Antioxidants – Most cases of erectile dysfunction (ED) are associated with oxidative stress on the body. Risk factors such as diabetes mellitus, smoking, hypercholesterolaemia and hypertension all compound the oxidative stress the body undergoes. Increasing antioxidants has been shown to improve all of these issues which helps increase blood flow and cardiovascular health.
Lycopene – a naturally occurring chemical that gives fruits and vegetables a red color. Lycopene is used for preventing heart disease, “hardening of the arteries” (atherosclerosis); and cancer of the prostate among other diseases.
Vitamin B3 – Also known as Niacin, B3 can boost levels of good HDL cholesterol and lower triglycerides as well or better than some prescription drugs. Niacin also modestly lowers bad LDL cholesterol. It has another important role of in that it helps reduce atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries, also increasing blood flow.
Drugs to Treat Impotence
Alprostadil -Alprostadil is a drug that causes blood vessels to expand, increasing blood flow throughout the body. This increasing blood flow to the penis helps facilitate an erection.
Cialis, Levitra, Staxyn, and Viagra to Treat ED – These drugs all work by very similar mechanisms to cause erections. There are subtle differences in how fast or long the drugs work. All of these drugs work to increases nitric oxide levels, which dilates blood vessels, increasing blood flow to the penis.
Hormonal Therapy for Erection Problems
Testosterone Replacement Therapy – Inadequate production of testosterone is not a common cause of erectile dysfunction; however, It is becoming more common as pollutants and chemicals enter our food sources (pesticides and plastics to name two). When ED does occur due to decreased testosterone production, testosterone replacement therapy usually improves the situation. Most men with higher testosterone levels experience lower levels of ED.
Sometimes the problem is mental and a sexual therapist will be able to help.
Natural Erectile Dysfunction Treatments – The Basics
Here we have the basics of natural treatments for ED in most average men.
Eat more fruit and vegetable servings: Fresh organic fruits and vegetables are essential sources of antioxidants, polyphenols, vitamins, minerals, and fiber, which improves overall health including blood flow.
Eat healthy fats: Healthy fats like omega-3s and monounsaturated fats should be the mainstay of a low-fat diet. This promotes sexual and prostate health and reverses impotence.
Drink green tea: The catechins that are in green tea have potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that haven proven necessary in reversing impotence.
Supplements: Several supplements can be helpful for supporting and treating erectile dysfunction, including horny goat weed, maca, and tribulus terrestris. Before you take any supplements do your research and investigate effects as well as the pros and cons of the product and make a more informed choice.
Water: Drinking pure or distilled/filtered water and staying properly hydrated is essential for maximum blood flow.
Lean body weight: Being overweight is detrimental to overall health and often contributes cardiovascular problems and ED.
Exercise regularly: We all know this, but physical activity improves energy level, self-esteem, and overall health, all of which have a positive impact on sexual function.
Lower your stress: Stress and erectile dysfunction seem to go hand-in-hand. Chronic stress can cause impotence, weaken the immune system and alter your hormonal balance (lower testosterone).
Avoid injury: Activities such as riding a horse or a bicycle can cause injury and restrict blood flow to the penile area. This can impact your ability to achieve and maintain an erection.
Avoid alcohol: Although alcohol in moderation (1 to 2 drinks daily) may be safe for some men, avoiding alcohol eliminates a factor that has been proven to cause some impotence.
Cut caffeine: Coffee, colas, some energy drinks and tea are high sources of caffeine and can irritate your prostate, which can result in impotence. High levels of caffeine in drinks is especially damaging.
The Natural Erectile Dysfunction Cure
Understandably, man men who suffer from E.D have showed skepticism towards natural erectile dysfunction programs, however a proper step-by-step guide on diet and nutrition has proven to be more successful in long term ED treatment than any other method.
